Y&R: Phyllis Inserts Herself Where She Shouldn’t, Nikki Offers Claire a Job, and Jack & Billy Disagree Over Use of the Abbott Name

Chancellor Park
Jack and Harrison spend quality time together at the park. Jack proudly teaches Harrison about baseball as they look through baseball trading cards.
Jack is about to tell Harrison who his favorite baseball player is when Phyllis interrupts them and answers the question for Jack.
Newman Enterprises
Claire sneaks up on Victoria at work.
Claire comments on how happy Victoria appears to be, and Victoria admits she has missed Newman Enterprises.
Nikki joins, and the three plan to hit Society for lunch. Nikki says she has something to discuss with Claire.
Abbott-Chancellor
Billy admires the new logo on the smart board. Lily enters and claims it certainly makes a statement, but she imagines there will be backlash because of the name change.
Billy questions why there would be, and Lily suggests it will take time for people to adjust.
Lily is taken aback when Billy’s attitude appears to have changed. He claims he’s not the one with a foot out the door and asks if she’d feel more comfortable if they added Lily to the logo.
Society
Claire tells Nikki about the complex custody battle between Kyle and Summer.
Nikki asks if Claire regrets taking the job.
Chancellor Park
Phyllis claims she was out taking a stroll and happened upon them.
Jack looks and listens as Phyllis lays it on thick about how much Summer loves Harrison and wants to spend time with him.
Jack intervenes and tells Harrison to go hunt caterpillars. Once Harrison is gone, Jack tells Phyllis she should be ashamed for lobbying her grandchild.
Abbott-Chancellor
Lily assumes Billy is joking, and he agrees he sort of is. She wants to know if Billy has spoken with Jill.
Billy says he’s talked with his mother and claims Jill is not on board with him stepping back in any capacity.
Lily hasn’t thought of a better solution to explain Billy stepping back and isn’t sure where that leaves them.
Billy agrees and says he’s having second thoughts. He isn’t sure stepping away is the right answer. Lily is surprised because hours ago, he was all in. Billy tells her they must proceed and not worry about Victor’s plans. He has drafted a press release announcing the name change and says all it requires is Lily’s signature.
Lily is offended and accuses Billy of lying to her.
Billy says that for a moment, he thought he was a problem, as had Lily said, but that moment is gone.
Chancellor Park
Phyllis orders Jack to stop being so paranoid. She explains Harrison is perfect and has experienced too much trauma already.
Jack agrees he’s noticed a change in Harrison following his parent’s separation, and Phyllis suggests Jack must recognize that Kyle has gone off the rails.
Jack refuses to listen to Phyllis bash his son and suggests she has too much free time. Phyllis tells him not to shoot the messenger.
Chancellor-Abbott
Lily argues that everything they agreed to is out the window.
Billy instructs Lily to call Jill herself because Jill will tell her the same thing, and Lily insists it’s easy for Billy and Jill to suggest she not worry about Victor.
Billy reminds Lily that Abbott-Chancellor is a powerhouse, not a startup company.
Billy tells Lily she knows his baggage and she shouldn’t be shocked. He questions Lily about her agenda because her actions toward him don’t make sense.
Society
Claire loves caring for Harrison but notes the job has become much more. Nikki sees this as her opening and wants to discuss employment with Claire.
Nikki reminds Claire that she was an excellent assistant and would love for Claire to join her on the new initiative.
Abbott-Chancellor
Lily instructs Billy to stop looking for conspiracy theories… She is protecting the work she did at Chancellor.
Billy believes Lily holds a grudge about him having the power that Jill stripped her of. Billy points out how she and Devon quickly informed him of Victor’s plan and how the brother and sister pair saw that as a way to get him out.
Lily declares that was never her motivation, and Billy tells her to prove him wrong by signing the press release immediately so they can proceed.
Society
Claire is surprised by Nikki’s offer.
Nikki wants Claire to hear her out before she answers. Claire agrees to listen.
Nikki recognizes Claire is a part of the family and should be part of the business. Nikki claims the sky is the limit for Claire at Newman Industries.
Nikki says this must remain between them, but she wants Claire to join her again.
Abbott-Chancellor
Lily refuses to sign off on the press release and says they can’t realistically deliver what is in the release. Billy disagrees.
Lily says it’s last minute, and a partnership doesn’t work this way. She points out that she doesn’t have to work there. Billy claims she wants this as much as he does, but Lily doesn’t want to share.
Lily corrects Billy, saying she doesn’t want the company’s future to hinge on his gut instincts. She says Billy has too much he’s trying to prove to other people and storms out, leaving Billy alone in the office.
Society
Claire promises to consider the job offer and claims Harrison is the only reason for her hesitation.
Victoria suggests there are other reasons to consider it. Claire blushes when Victoria calls out the employer/employee situation, and Nikki questions what she means by that.
Claire insists again that she and Kyle are just friends.
Victoria suggests Claire could untangle their relationship if she no longer works for him.
Claire thanks Nikki but says she must be there to try to shield Harrison from the custody fallout.
Nikki is disappointed but recognizes Claire as a wonderful person.
The Genoa City Athletic Club
Lily sits alone at the bar and drinks her stress away. She notices Phyllis across the dining room and attempts to hide behind her hand.
Phyllis spots her and approaches. She offers to buy Lily a drink and says they have much to chat about.
Abbott Mansion
Jack and Harrison play a heated game of Go Fish.
Claire enters as Harrison wins another round.
Jack senses something is wrong, and Claire says there is, but she isn’t sure how to resolve the problem.
Newman Enterprises
Nikki questions Victoria about the Kyle/Claire situation. Victoria is torn because Jordan did a real number on Claire. She says part of her is happy for Claire, but she agrees with Nikki that Kyle carries a lot of baggage.
Nikki refers to Kyle’s recent behavior as a problem. She says she wants to protect Claire from a broken heart.
Abbott Mansion
Claire tells Jack that the arguing between Kyle and Summer has gotten worse.
Jack knows. He wishes they would come to their senses. He thinks that Kyle will perhaps listen to Claire.
GCAC Dining Room
Phyllis gets to the point. She thanks Lily for working things out with Daniel.
Phyllis wonders if the rumors she’s hearing are true about Lily staying behind with Billy.
Lily chuckles and says she wouldn’t call it that.
Phyllis senses that Lily regrets the decision already.
Society
Jack and Billy run into each other at the Society bar.
Billy is glad to see Jack. Billy informs him he has added the Abbott name to Chancellor Industries.
Newman Enterprises
Neither Victoria nor Nikki disagree about Kyle’s recent behavior.
Victoria points out that it’s useless to talk to warn Claire about it because she didn’t listen to her parents when she was Claire’s age.
Nikki agrees that’s true.
Abbott Mansion
Harrison wants to know what Claire is thinking about. He can see a look on her face and wonders if Claire is worrying about Summer and Kyle.
Claire insists she’s not, and he shouldn’t either because they both love him very much.
GCAC Dining Room
Lily doesn’t want to play games with Phyllis.
Phyllis recognizes she has hit a nerve and offers Lily a favor. She reminds Lily how charming and sharp Billy is and tells her to watch out because “all that” can blind people. Phyllis warns that Billy is out for himself.
Phyllis wants to know why Lily chose to stay with Billy and believes she would be more comfortable working with her family.
Society
Jack shares that Devon has mentioned this. Billy recognizes Jack isn’t thrilled with the idea.
Jack claims it’s the family name, but it’s not Billy’s family company.
Billy points out that it is both for him.
Jack suggests Chancellor is and always will be Katherine’s company and Billy should respect that.
Billy insists he’s forging a new legacy and Jack should respect that.
