The next Dutton landing spot has been confirmed.
Though the last episode of the popular cowboy show aired in December, there were rumblings that spinoffs were on the way that would feature some of the fan-favorite characters from the series.
Now, Luke Grimes, who played the youngest child of the Dutton clan, has issued a huge announcement that has fans “so excited.”
Grimes posted a screenshot of a Deadline article on May 7 that confirmed that the spinoff centered on his character, Kacey Dutton, will be coming to CBS.
The show, with a working title of Y: Marshals, will join the network’s midseason lineup on Sundays at 9 p.m. and will show Kacey as he joins “an elite unit of U.S. Marshals.”
Per Variety, the official logline of the program is “With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”
Fans were thrilled by Grimes’ post, which was captioned, “Cowboys dont say goodbye, they say see you later.”
- “So hyped for this! Kayce was one of my favorite characters,” one person wrote.
- “Kayce is coming back! My favorite Dutton,” someone else said.
- “Amazingly wonderful news…can’t wait!!!!!! Love Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton,” a third fan added.
- “Im not done seeing Kayce as law enforcement yet he has potential,” a fourth comment read.
“There’s definitely a sort of summer camp blues feeling. All my friends are going away, but I’ve made friends for life on this job. I’m glad we got to finish strong,” Grimes told Entertainment Weekly of the series end.
There have been a number of different spinoffs to come from out of the show, including prequels 1883 and 1923 that were also wildly successful. Next up, will be 1944 and The Madison, the latter of which has Michelle Pfeiffer attached.
“Within five years, we grew Yellowstone from a hit U.S. cable show with 5 million viewers into a global hit franchise with over 100 million fans around the world and multiple extensions — and we’re just getting started,” Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, said according to The Hollywood Reporter.
