We’re getting emotionally prepared for the season 12 finale.

Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) is getting ready to exit the building. Literally and metaphorically. The character will be leaving Firehouse 51 and Chicago Fire as a whole in the season 12 finale. Well, kind of. The character will still appear in the occasional episode, but the days of him being a central cast member are coming to an end.

Chicago Fire has done a good job of keeping the specific details of Boden’s departure a secret, but since we’re coming up on the finale episode, showrunner Andrea Newman has finally agreed to let us in on what to expect. She told TV Insider that Boden is reaching a point in his life where he wants to prioritize his family over his co-workers.

“Boden has been managing a lot of change at home and at 51, and learned a lot while doing it, including about himself,” Newman noted. “A shocking incident in the finale will highlight what it means to him to be a leader, and everyone close to him will be impacted in a huge way by the decision he makes.”

The most interesting part of Boden’s exit, according to the showrunner, is the way it will impact the rest of 51. “Cruz and Chloe, Violet and Carver, Damon being drawn to Novakn, Kidd and Severide dealing with the emotional fallout,” she added. “It’s a relationship rollercoaster and viewers will just have to hold on tight.” When asked to get more specific, Newman told the outlet:

“There are so many decisions to be made, I don’t think I could count them all.”

This makes sense given the manipulative efforts of Chief Robinson (Laura Allen) throughout season 12. The character clearly has it out for Firehouse 51, and despite seemingly playing ball with Severide (Taylor Kinney) and firing Jared Lennox (Wesam Keesh), she seems to have an ulterior move.

It’s safe to assume that Boden is going to play a huge role in Robinson’s attempt to disrupt 51, and we imagine he will do whatever it takes to ensure that she fails.
