Home and Away boss takes swipe at stars who ‘don’t like talking about’ stint on show

Channel Seven’s Director of Content Scheudling Brook Hall previously hit out about the Home and Away cast members who “don’t like talking” about their early days working on the Australian soap.

Home and Away boss has taken a swipe at Hollywood stars who “don’t like talking” their early days working on the show.

Channel Seven’s Director of Content Scheduling, Brook Hall, spoke about the legacy of the Australian soap opera back in 2022. He told TV Tonight at the time that the drama remains one of Seven’s “most important” shows.

He also revealed that the programme is the network’s most expensive production. Mr Hall said: “I’m very proud of Home and Away, and it’s arguably our most important show, and our biggest cash outlay. We don’t have to do it. We believe in it.

He went on to say Home and Away is often unfairly criticised, despite the fact it has produced many great Australian actors who went on to make it big in Hollywood including Margot Robbie. He said: “Our most successful acting exports over the last 20 years have come from the show that people don’t want to count as premium drama.”

She continued: “It’s a great thing on actors’ résumés for LA because it has such good training, even though some of the actors don’t like talking about it when they get over there.” While many humble actors are proud of their Home and Away background, some have tried to distance themselves from the soap after moving on to greater things

Melissa George, who began her career playing Angel Parrish on the show before finding success in Hollywood, infamously once said she didn’t want interviewers to ask her any questions about her soap opera days. During an appearance on The Morning Show. she said: “I don’t need credibility from my country anymore, I just need them all to be quiet. If they have nothing intelligent to say, please don’t speak to me anymore. I’d rather be having a croissant in Paris or walking my French bulldog in New York City.”

Home and Away first aired in 1988 after Alan Bateman came up with the concept of the show during a trip to Kangaroo Point, New South Wales, where he noticed locals were complaining about the construction of a foster home and against the idea of foster children from the city living in the area.
