The Rinse Y&R: Victor Blackmails Cane — Is His Empire Built on Lies?

In the September 2 episode of The Young and the Restless, Cane faced Victor’s most dangerous move yet. What began as a refusal to partner with the Mustache against Jabot turned into a battle over Cane’s very identity when Victor pulled out evidence that Colin’s final con helped fund Arabesque. The revelation raised the question: Is Cane’s empire built on lies, and what will it cost him to protect it?.

Victor Pushes Cane Into a Corner

When Cane (Billy Flynn) rejected Victor’s (Eric Braeden) latest power play, he assumed the conversation was over. Instead, Victor presented a damning document tying Colin’s (Tristan Rogers, whose last TV appearance was on Y&R) last swindle to the fortune Cane used to build his company.

The threat was clear—ally with Victor or risk public humiliation. Cane pushed back, insisting he wasn’t involved and refusing to let his father’s crimes define him. But Victor framed it as inevitable: Cane’s family, and Genoa City at large, would see his empire as tainted if he didn’t fall in line.

The Weight of Cane’s Past

This attack cut deeper than a simple business threat. Cane built his success as Dumas to prove to his children that he wasn’t the man his father was. He wanted to give Mattie and Charlie a legacy worth admiring, not one tied to scandal and deceit. But will Cane’s kids ever forgive him?

But Victor’s blackmail exploited those old wounds. By dredging up Colin’s sins, he forced Cane to confront the fragile foundation of his empire and the very insecurities he’s tried to bury for years.

What Happens If Cane Breaks?

Victor doesn’t play a short game, and this leverage all but guarantees Cane will be tested again. If Cane gives in, he risks alienating his children further and reinforcing the image that he’s no different from Colin. If he resists, he risks public disgrace and losing the empire he swore was built for his family.

Either choice carries devastating consequences, and with Victor circling, Cane may not be able to escape without a fight. Find out how this story plays out in the weekly Y&R spoilers September 1-5.
