Very EMOTIONAL News!!! Emmerdale sparks complaints with April’s kidnap story

Emmerdale has sparked a number of Ofcom complaints over the April Windsor kidnap storyline.

The recent scenes on the soap saw the teenager taken by new villain Jade, who had organised an illegal boxing match between Ross and Billy Fletcher.

After Mackenzie Boyd stole cash from the match, Jade assumed Ross was responsible for the theft – despite his protests – and after threatening his family April was caught in the crossfire when she was kidnapped by Jade.

In another cruel twist, April was held over the edge of a multi-story car park, which was the same place her mother died a decade ago.

Ofcom has now confirmed that it has received 62 complaints about the storyline, a spokesperson adding (via The Sun): “Complainants objected to a storyline involving child abduction and violence.”

This isn’t the first time this year that Emmerdale has received backlash from viewers, with Tom King’s poisoning of dog Piper amid the Belle Dingle abuse storyline drawing in over 1,000 Ofcom complaints over the summer.

The regulator stressed that the “inclusion or omission of a programme” on its list is “not indicative that Ofcom is investigating the broadcast”, and “the number of complaints received is not an indication of how serious an issue is”.

The soap later issued a statement on the scenes, explaining: “These scenes can be distressing to watch, but we want to remind you that Minnie (AKA Piper) is a very good actor and is always living her best life on set! We can confirm that no harm has come to her whatsoever.”
